Sermon Notes:
Power of Healthy Connections
- A main thing at CAML.
- life is built on relationships – family , work, church, hobbies, community
- they add or take away from life
- they move and breath, they can be broken and healed
*Connections are supernatural: Matthew 18:19-20
19 “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. 20 For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
Examples:
Birth of a child-
Marriage- “the two become one”
Death and loss
*Two institutions founded by Christ- Family and Church: Matt 22:37-40
“Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself”
- Love God Love People (embrace a connection with God and let it overflow to a connection with people)
- Everything hangs on this commandment, life itself
* Elements of Healthy Connections
1. Significance:
1Corinthians 12:18-21 (New Living Translation)
18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
- sig because of what you are
- sig because of what we are a part of
- Compliment instead of compete- connections that change the world are made up of two significant parts that are set on adding value to one another.
2. Strength:
Ephesians 4:16 (New Living Translation)
16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
- Perfectly- equipped for every good work by each finding their fit
- Growing- multiplication happens when we connect. Ex. Moses and Joshua, David
and Solomon , Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and His disciples.
Personal Examples: Parents and their kids, husband and wife, friends and coworkers
3. Security:
Acts 17:5-7 (New Living Translation)
5 But some of the Jews were jealous, so they gathered some troublemakers from the marketplace to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of Jason, searching for Paul and Silas so they could drag them out to the crowd. 6 Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers instead and took them before the city council. “Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world,” they shouted, “and now they are here disturbing our city, too. 7 And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another king, named Jesus.”
- These guys were willing to lay down their lives for Paul and Silas but it was because they held allegiance to Jesus
- On mission together- supernatural level of connection
4. Satisfaction: John 4:25-34
- Jesus found nourishment when he connected with the woman at the well
- Jesus told the disciples that the harvest was ready for them to connect with.
- Every relationship has these two processes taking place- sowing and reaping
- Be intentional about celebrating others and having fun.
